Put your hands together for one of the top Children’s Choirs of Mexico! Performing for the first time in Canada, the Celaya Conservatory Children’s Choir has performed alongside some of the top Musicians in Mexico and will be bringing a delightful program of Latin American music to Niagara-on-the-Lake for our listening pleasure. The choir would like to thank Cultura: Secretaria De Cultura, GTO: Instituto Estatal de la Cultura and Talento GTO en monimiento for funding their Canadian tour.

Performer Bio

Since 2012 the Children’s Choir of the Conservatory of Celaya has been under the conduction of Isabel Rico. During those years, the choir took part in several performances in different cities in Mexico. Including performances alongside the State Orchestra of Guanajuato and the Silvestre Revueltas Orchestra of Celaya. In addition to such performances, the choir has also preformed in remarkable Operas such as: “Carmen” by Bizet and “Nuestro Tresguerras” by the Mexican composer Guillermo Diego.

In 2015 the Children’s Choir was invited to the International Festival Cervantino to present “Carmina Burana” by Karl Orff.  One year later, it took part in the Guitar-Camera Festival.

The choir also participated in a choral conducting workshop, taught by the distinguish master Ana María Raga (Venezuela). They participated in a Choir Meeting in Mexico City.


Isabel Rico – Director

Isabel Rico has a degree in Choir Conduction and a specialization in piano from her high school musical education at the Conservatory of Music and Arts of Celaya, Mexico. Some of her former professors are  J. Carmen Ruiz , Margarita Mandioni (Piano); Agustin Salazar, John Goodwin and Patricia Carbajal (Choir Conduction); Miguel E. Hernández Sargero, Luisa Olvera and Amelia Sierra (Voice).

In addition to her education, she has received professional training in piano by the masters Leonardo Saraceni, Michael Tsalka Silvana Santinelli; in Voice with Stefano Lovato, Dolores Granados and Moises Molin;  in Choir Conduction with Adrew Netshinga, Ana Maria Raga, Orlando Arreguin, Maria Felicia Perez, Federico Trindade and Uriel Ortega. In her complementary education, she has taken courses in Linguistic and Stylistic with Carlos Aransay, Pipe Organ with Federico del Sordo, Gregorian Singing with Daniel Saulnier, Training in Dalcroze Rythmic with Elda Nelly Trevino, Orchestra Conduction with Gaetan Kuchta, Bartholomeus-Henri Van de Velde and Andres Ortega, Alexander Technique in Choir Conduction with Rodrigo Suarez, “Canto Coral en escena” with Claudia Londono and Musical Adjustment with Jose Galvan.

As singer, she was part of the Youth Choir, and the Chamber Choir of Conservatory of Celaya for 6 years.

Isabel, as Conductor of the Children’s Choir of the Conservatory of Celaya, has led in several concerts, choir meetings, conduction courses, forums of musical education, and operas such as “Carmen” by Bizet, “Nuestro Tresguerras” by the Mexican composer Guillermo Diego, “Carmina Burana”, in the Festival Guitar-Camera 2016, Choir concert at Soumaya Museum in Mexico City, “Pequenos Grandes Musicos” concert. In addition, several performances with Symphony Orchestras.

She is part of the faculty  at the Conservatory of Celaya lecturing young high school students, teaching piano for children and working as choir conductor of such groups.
