A musician with a fiercely inquisitive mind, impeccable technique and an intensely poetic vision, Ilya Poletaev is an artist equally at home on the piano or on harpsichord, fortepiano and chamber organ. In 2010 he captured First Prize at the prestigious International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig — the only Canadian ever to win that competition. He is known for the breadth and creativity of his programming choices – from traditional recitals and concerto performances to interdisciplinary events combining performances on different instruments.
Named top 30 under 30 Hot Young Canadian Classical Musicians by CBC Radio in 2014, Emma Meinrenken debuted with the TSO at the age of 10 and has since performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras across North America. She recently made her Carnegie Hall debut and plays the 1689 Baumgartner Stradivarius violin, generously on loan from the Canada Council for the Arts. Emma is a Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation Annual Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She currently studies with Ida Kavafian, and former teachers include Atis Bankas and Victor Danchenko.
