Located in St. Catharines, Ontario, the Laura Secord Secondary School’s music department promotes student talent and fosters extra-curricular involvement with the production of professional calibre musicals, choirs, orchestras and bands. Membership in Laura Secord’s concert choir is open to all students and is therefore a wonderful mix of athletes, artists, scholars and musicians joining together in song.
This award-winning choir has a busy roster every year with many invitations to perform and compete outside of the school. Over the years, their annual music trip has taken them around North America and Europe, with special performances in Venice for Mass at St. Mark’s Basilica and at Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal. They have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support World Vision’s child sponsorship through their ongoing “Sing Across the World” project and continue to partner with local United Way chapters at their annual “Songs of the City” concert. The choir has been fortunate to work individually with many professional musicians including Measha Brueggergosman, Kenny Rogers, Take6, Molly Johnson, Jackie Richardson, Joe Sealy, Lorraine Segato, Michael Kaeshammer, Larnell Lewis, James Bryan, Robert Pilon, Barbra Lica, Toronto Mass Choir, Faith Chorale, Classic Albums Live, The Niagara Symphony, and legendary choral conductor and composer John Rutter.
They have accompanied World Figure Skating Champion Patrick Chan, performed at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Florida, performed in Chicago at the legendary San Fillippo Place de la Musique, and with Canadian pop singing sensation “Lights” in front of 65,000 fans and millions of viewers for ET Canada’s New Year’s Eve live national television broadcast. Special performances include a concert for the Nelson Mandela Family.
Many of these talented young musicians also sing or play in other ensembles, at school and within in the community.
Laura Secord Concert Choir is excited to be partnering with the Music Niagara ChoralFest this year, and look forward to more collaboration in the future.
