Remembrance Day 2019

A heartfelt and inspiring Remembrance Day program in tribute to those who gave their lives to serve and protect our country.  First Nations performers will be showcased including the Odawa tribe’s Barbara Croall, with narration by local celebrity Guy Bannerman, and the renowned Victoria Kogan on piano.  All proceeds will be donated to the “Lost Post Fund”; an Indigenous Veterans Initiative.

This program will include a Canteen Lunch immediately following the ceremony at the Cenotaph (led by the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake) with the musical performance to follow.

Niagara’s Avanti Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Rachel Rensink-Hoff, Assistant Professor of Music at Brock University, consistently deliver intimate, high quality choral performances. Under the umbrella of Brock University’s Viva Voce Choral Series, this community-based chamber choir performs mainstream choral music, both accompanied and a cappella. They feature the works of Canadian and Niagara-based composers in a wide array of old and new musical styles, from short compositions to extended choral works.

Victoria Scholars is an all-male, award-winning choir. Internationally acclaimed, they’ve released four recordings and have performed with some of the biggest names in classical and contemporary music. Their voices have the clarity and balance of sound characteristic of Renaissance music, but they also feature works from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras, as well as contemporary pieces in a variety of styles. This performance will also feature Gregorian chants, sacred and contemporary works as well as pieces by French Canadian composers.

Put your hands together for one of the top Children’s Choirs of Mexico! Performing for the first time in Canada, the Celaya Conservatory Children’s Choir has performed alongside some of the top Musicians in Mexico and will be bringing a delightful program of Latin American music to Niagara-on-the-Lake for our listening pleasure. The choir would like to thank Cultura: Secretaria De Cultura, GTO: Instituto Estatal de la Cultura and Talento GTO en monimiento for funding their Canadian tour.

The Messiah Chorus, led by conductor Mervin Fick, will be joined by the Orchestra of St. Mark’s to bring to life a glorious rendition of Sing-Along Messiah. Messiah transcends boundaries with its message of charity, peace, goodwill and sacrifice. Two wonderful choirs in one great performance! Volunge, named after Lithuania’s beautiful “Golden Oriole”, is an award-winning Lithuanian choir led by conductor Dalia Viskontas with assistance by vocal coach and accompanist Danguole Radtke. Volunge will start off the afternoon with an eclectic Lithuanian program of secular and sacred songs and major works.

Following this is critically acclaimed Vesnivka, led by founding conductor and director Halyna Kyitka Kondracki. They are renowned for their musical excellence, quality of repertoire and high professional standards. Vesnivka will present a program sung entirely in Ukrainian: The program will consist of works by Oleksander Koshyts (who first brought the famous “Carol of the Bells” to North America), Ukrainian folk songs and works by Ukrainian-Canadian composers. They will finish the program on a lighter note with tangos and waltzes by Bohdan Vesolowsky.

This award-winning school choir promotes student talent and fosters extra-curricular involvement through high calibre musicals, choirs, orchestras and bands. Membership is open to all students and the choir includes a mix of athletes, artists, scholars and musicians joining together in song under the masterful direction of Ms. Katryna Sacco. The choir has toured North America and Europe and has worked with many professional musicians including Measha Brueggergosman, Kenny Rogers, Take6, Molly Johnson, Jackie Richardson and Joe Sealy.

Hamilton Children’s Choir is one of the leading children’s choral programs in the world. They dazzle audiences with a focused sound, brilliant repertoire and captivating stage presence. Jasmin Lin, a Music Niagara Performance Academy alumni, and Juillard student joins the choir onstage playing the great Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume “Messiah” violin awarded to her by the Canada Council Instrument Bank for 3 years. The Celaya Conservatory Children’s Choir will also make a guest appearance in this concert.
